My Kindle Scout Campaign – Day 3

Steady As She Goes

Steady as she goes.

That is the way to keep ahead in your campaign to stay on the Hot & Trending list in your Kindle Scout campaign.

Why?

Well, because every hour of every day the Kindle Scout algorithm mechanism continues to measure your rate of progress – so if you get a mind-blowing INSERT-BIG-NUMBER-HERE of nominations on your first day of your campaign, but are only getting a few nominations a day on your seventeenth day of your campaign you begin to slip. You fall off of the Hot & Trending list. Your book suddenly stops showing up on the front page of the Kindle Scout page and THAT is exactly what you DON’T want to happen.

So – for all of you folks out there who are planning on submitting a manuscript to Kindle Scout try and space your campaign out. Ideally you want a strong steady flow of nominations.

So far I have had good luck with my campaign.

By the end of yesterday I have spent 24 hours on the Hot & Trending list, with 230 page views.

My campaign STARTED on October 11th and it ENDS on November 10th.

That leaves me with 26 days to go, as of this morning.

So far I have mostly been relying on my Facebook, Twitter, a whole lot of personal friends, and the good folks over at kboards.

Every morning I rise up early and I spend about twenty minutes or so posting on various Facebook pages – telling folks about my Kindle Scout Campaign and asking if they would please help me out by giving me a nomination.

I have got a long list of Facebook pages and I usually try to hit about a dozen of them so that I don’t overwhelm folks. I do this again in the middle of the day and in the evening.

I know.

It is as random as an Elmer Fudd shotgun blast.

Like Ringo, I get by with a little help from friends.

Over on Facebook I have had about a dozen of my friends sharing my Kindle Scout Campaign page. I feel a little bad about those folks who follow my Facebook page who AREN’T interested in Kindle or Kindle Scout – because in the last two or three days there has been a Share of my Kindle Scout Campaign every two or three posts or so.

I feel bad – like I said – but at the same time I do a little Snoopy dance of joy – getting all Sally Fields for a moment or two – they like me, they like me, they really really like me!

Ooh yeah.

🙂

I have got other resources that I am holding off on using until a little later in the campaign. I intend to put a post on my little-used Goodreads blog and on a few of the Goodreads groups that I happen to be a member of. I intend to pass the word around to my Google+ friends and on a half a dozen Linked In groups that I am a member of.

I am shilling. I am beating the bushes and waving my hands in the air and trying to call up a crowd and I have taken to wearing a sandwich board when I walk down the street.

Quite a few of the folks I know who have actually made their Kindle Scout Campaign a success have advised me to look into taking out a Facebook ad – and I am looking into that and will tell you how that works for me as the days go by.

If you want to read how somebody else did it – check out Martin Crosbie’s blog!

So – as of yesterday I had 27 days to go, 24 hours in Hot & Trending, and 230 page views.

As of this morning I have 26 days to go with 48 hours in Hot & Trending and 287 page views.

If you want to break it down – I had 3 hours on Day 1, 21 hours on Day 2, and 24 hours on Day 3.

HOWEVER – I had 124 views on Day 1, 106 views on Day 2 and 57 views yesterday.

That is a distinctive downward trend.

Hopefully, I can remedy this – but for now it is uphill on greasy-fast roller skates.

So for now it is slow and steady as she goes.
